All the fillers we use in our clinic are temporary and made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. In time, your body gradually breaks down the connections between the molecules in the filler, at which point, it loses its plumping and smoothing effect, so you might start thinking about booking a refresh appointment. Typically, your treatment will last 6 - 12 months, although some patients report theirs have lasted up to 18 months in certain areas.

Any injection can hurt but the needles used for filler injections are small, so pain is usually very slight. Occasionally, there may be some degree of discomfort whilst the filler is being injected but this can be minimised by applying a topical anaesthetic cream 20-30 minutes prior to the treatment. Most of our fillers contain a small amount of local anaesthetic to alleviate any further discomfort. Blunt ended cannulas are used for most of the advanced dermal filler injections, which decrease pain and bruising and improve overall aesthetic results.

There is no “right age” to start injectable treatments. Dermal fillers are used for many different reasons; to increase volume in certain areas of the face for beautification and also to restore volume lost to the aging process. As we head into our 30s, our collagen and elastin production decreases, so this sometimes acts as a prompt to restore some of the natural plumpness that is starting to be lost.
