There are two ways the body clears or fights COVID-19 infection. One is by B Lymphocytes creating antibodies and we have had antibody testing around for the last year or so.
And the second is T Lymphocytes. We have seen a lot in the press about T Lymphocytes or natural killer cells, which basically destroy and devour the virus and spit it out.
We know that these two arms of infection immunity exist, but hitherto, we have been unable to test for T cell lymphocytes activity against the COVID-19 virus until now.
Together with a company called Oxford Immunotec, who had pioneered T Lymphocytes testing to test for TB Lymphocyte reactivity, have modified this technique to test for COVID-19 T cell reactivity and this is now available for the first time to the general public.
The Private Harley Street Clinic, in collaboration with Oxford Immunotec, have launched the ability for any individual to obtain a T Lymphocyte test in a turnaround of two to three days.
It involves a simple venous blood draw which is placed into a specific type of tube that gets sent to the laboratory. The result come back within two to three days, together with a full explanation of what the result means and then of course, you have the ability to speak to Dr Mark Ali, the Medical Director of the Private Harley Street Clinic. Dr Ali has a degree in Immunology and Molecular Biology and that of course gives him a specific insight into Immunology matters like this.
