Private Harley Street Clinic

COVID-19 Combined Antibody & Antigen Test

Price: £335 in clinic | £435 at home

Do you require both an Antibody and Antigen test to travel?

Or do you simply want to have both tests which is the recommendation of our Medical Director. Both tests are available either in our clinic or at home from one of our nurses.

Please note that proof of identity is required prior to having your sample taken. This can be an ID Card, Passport (required if travelling), drivers license or residents permit. Unfortunately we will not be able to assist you if you do not have any legal identification on you when coming for your appointment.

For clarification, the timing of receiving your antigen (PCR) results will generally be between 24-48 hours after your test. Generally we get 90% of results back to people in 24 hours however things such as capacity at the laboratory and test re-runs can mean results take slightly longer. We are not liable for any other associated costs should your results be delayed.

  1. Do NOT use any nasal medication or wash for at least 12 hours prior to testing. This will spoil the sample.
  2. Do NOT brush your teeth, use mouthwash, chew gum, eat or drink for at least 2 hours prior to testing. This may spoil the sample.
  3. Turn-around-time for COVID PCR swab is next day; however, please note that there is a small possibility that your sample may fail. Sample failure is rare, but if this happens, the sample needs to be repeated which takes another 24 hours. If the second repeat fails again, a brand-new collection is required.
  4. You need to be aware of the above and make an informed decision to proceed.

Antibody tests look for evidence of the immune response to covid-19. The aim to answer the question: have I been exposed to COVID-19 and produced an immune response? You can read in more detail about the types of test here. If you want to see if you are carrying covid-19 now, you need to use an antigen test (PCR test)

We do not yet know if the antibodies are protective to make you immune and we do not yet know how long this immunity will last.

Public Health England released guidelines on 11th May, 2020 detailing the flowchart describing return to work following a SARS Cov-2 test result.

Therefore, anyone wishing to follow the above PHE advice should also have an antigen test which can be booked here.

If a person is exposed to covid-19, their immune system will react in order to start clearing the virus. This involves producing antibodies to help clear the virus and evidence suggests most patients who recover from covid-19 produce them. There are different types of antibodies: IgG is the most common and it is the IgG to covid-19 that is detected by this test.

We strive to offer the most accurate test. It is CE marked and approved for use in the UK by the MHRA. The test is extremely accurate with a sensitivity of >97.5% and specificity of 100%. You can read more about these terms here.

Producing antibodies takes time: testing should be undertaken 14 days or more following symptom onset.

You can read more about what your antibody result means here

COV-2 IgG < 1.4 Not Detected (Negative)
COV-2 IgG > = 1.4 Detected (Positive)

Specificity 100%
Sensitivity 97.5%

Results should be used in conjunction with information available from clinical evaluation and other diagnostic procedures. It has been recognised that there can be delayed responses in immunocompromised patients.
